Did you know that a study for Big Brothers or Big Sisters found that youth matched with a mentor:
A Big Brother or Big Sister is simply an additional positive adult role model to your child, but one who is specifically there to defend the potential in your child’s life, lift them up to new and higher goals, and set them on a path for success.
Young people with a mentor in their lives suddenly get it.
All the times you have asked your student to do their homework… and yet when a Big Brother or Big Sister talks about a job they love and how they use algebra every day, it clicks.
You warn your child about the dangers of drinking and smoking over and over… and yet when a mentor talks about how they have never smoked and the social disadvantages of smelling of cigarettes, they listen.
Young people and friends are so important, and when a friend like a Big Brother or Big Sister questions your child who might be hanging out with the wrong crowd, they suddenly stop and talk about it.
We are a BIG family and are committed to defending the unique potential of all youth. We seek Bigs and Littles of every race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, ability, and socioeconomic status.
Our goal is to find the right mentor for each and every young person in our program. To do this, we have a formal enrollment process that includes an orientation and interview with you and your child. The information we gather helps us match you and your child with the mentor that best fits your goals and desires.
Young people entering our program are initially between the ages of 6-16, and have a need for a mentor in their lives.
Many of our young people are from single parent households, but several are in two caregiver homes with situations where they need additional support.
Some examples could include:
Children facing trauma in their lives
Big Brothers Big Sisters’ standards of child safety are recognized nationally as the benchmark for volunteer onboarding.
All potential mentor applications go through careful screening process that includes
